How Healing Her Gut Helped a Patient Balance Hypothyroidism and Resolve Fatigue, Brain Fog & Insomnia

I’m going to show you how, by healing her gut, a patient balanced her hypothyroid condition and resolved her fatigue, brain fog, insomnia—and dropped eight pounds of excess fat.

My name is Dr. Tom Rofrano from the Natural Medicine Clinic in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and I’m the author of the FreeDiet®. I’ve been blessed to have seen over 100,000 patient visits over the last 38 years, many involving gut and thyroid issues. This patient was one of them.

Her Symptoms: Fatigue, Brain Fog, Digestive Issues & Hypothyroidism

A 60-year-old woman came in with:

  • Fatigue
  • Brain fog
  • Constipation
  • Bloating
  • Insomnia

She was so exhausted she needed a nap every day just to function.

She had been diagnosed with hypothyroidism 12 years earlier and had been on various thyroid medications until about a year and a half ago. She tried alternative approaches but still felt terrible.

Comprehensive Testing Revealed the Root Causes

I ran a full panel of comprehensive lab tests, and her results showed:

Thyroid Dysfunction

  • TSH was almost 10
    • Optimal range: 0.3–2.5
    • This confirmed active hypothyroidism.

Metabolic & Organ Function Issues

  • Low kidney function markers
  • High triglycerides
  • High LDL cholesterol
  • Above-optimal insulin (insulin resistance)
  • Below-optimal adrenal function

Deficiencies

Functional testing revealed low levels of:

  • Folate
  • Other B vitamins
  • Copper
  • Glutathione

Toxins

  • High mercury levels

Infections

  • Active Epstein-Barr virus
  • Candida yeast overgrowth
  • Bacterial imbalance in the intestines

Hormonal Imbalance

  • Low DHEA (adrenal hormone)
  • Low melatonin (sleep hormone)

Food Reactions

  • Gluten sensitivity (the most common food reaction I see with thyroid dysfunction)
  • Leaky gut
  • Sensitivity to eggs, dairy, yeast, and other foods

These root causes were driving her hypothyroidism, fatigue, digestive issues, and inflammation.

Her Results After 3 Months

After starting the FreeDiet® and a targeted supplement protocol, her improvements were dramatic.

Symptoms That Improved

  • Better digestion
  • More energy
  • No longer needed daily naps
  • Sleeping better
  • Less brain fog
  • Lost 8 pounds and reached her goal weight

Lab Improvements

  • TSH dropped from almost 10 to below 1
  • Kidney function normalized
  • LDL cholesterol improved
  • Adrenal hormones (DHEA and cortisol) improved
  • Insulin improved over 65%
  • Mercury levels dropped to normal
  • Low iodine improved to normal

She felt like a completely different person.

The Best Diet for Eliminating Blastocystis Hominis: A Patient Success Story

The Best Diet for Eliminating Blastocystis Hominis: A Patient Success Story

What’s the best diet for eliminating the parasite Blastocystis hominis? Today, I’m going to show you how a patient eliminated Blasto and three other parasites using an anti-inflammatory diet and targeted supplements.

This patient was no exception.

His Symptoms: Gut Issues, Skin Problems, Hormone Imbalance & Fatigue

A man in his 40s came in with:

  • Gas and bloating
  • Multiple bowel movements per day
  • Fatigue
  • Brain fog
  • Itchy skin (especially rectal itching)
  • Eczema
  • Thyroid nodules
  • Low testosterone

He was feeling miserable and looking for answers.

Comprehensive Testing Revealed Multiple Parasites & Gut Imbalances

After running a full evaluation and comprehensive lab testing, we found:

Parasites & Infections

  • Blastocystis hominis
  • Three additional protozoan parasites
  • Bacterial overgrowth
  • Candida yeast overgrowth

With this many gut infections, malabsorption is common — and that’s what he had.

Nutrient Deficiencies

  • Multiple vitamin and mineral deficiencies

Hormonal Imbalance

  • Low testosterone
  • Adrenal dysfunction

Food Reactions

  • Gluten sensitivity
  • Leaky gut
  • Other food reactions

Toxins

  • High fluoride
  • High bromine

Blood Abnormalities

Because of malabsorption, he had:

  • Anemia
  • Low cholesterol
  • Low HDL
  • Low platelet count

He also had:

  • High triglycerides
  • High iron and high iron saturation
  • Above-optimal ferritin

When the gut is this compromised, it can affect every part of the body.

The Goal: Heal the Gut to Improve the Entire Body

The foundation of his treatment was to heal the gut, which then allowed improvements across all systems — digestion, hormones, inflammation, and nutrient absorption.

The FreeDiet®: The Anti-Inflammatory Diet That Helped Him Heal

The diet I put him on is called the FreeDiet®, which I developed years ago while healing my own Hashimoto’s autoimmune thyroid condition, rheumatoid arthritis, IBS, fatigue, brain fog, and skin issues — including my own case of Blastocystis hominis.

The FreeDiet® is free of:

  • Gluten
  • Grains
  • Sugar
  • Yeast
  • Dairy
  • Eggs
  • Soy
  • Legumes
  • Nightshades
  • Processed foods

These foods are the most common triggers for inflammation, gut issues, thyroid dysfunction, and other chronic health problems.

What He Ate

Breakfast: A smoothie high in protein, essential fats, fruits, vegetables, and fiber. (I’ll include a link to the recipe below.)

Lunch & Dinner:

  • Protein (meat, chicken, or fish)
  • Plenty of vegetables
  • Healthy fats

As patients improve, they move into Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the FreeDiet®, adding foods back in strategically.

His Results After 6 Weeks

After six weeks on the FreeDiet® and targeted supplements, his improvements were remarkable.

Blood Marker Improvements

  • HDL cholesterol increased
  • Platelet count normalized

  • Three other parasites — gone
  • Bacterial overgrowth — gone

His pancreatic function and immunoglobulins also improved dramatically.

Symptom Improvements

He reported:

  • No more gas or bloating
  • No more rectal itching
  • Improved fatigue
  • Clearer thinking
  • Better skin
  • Normal bowel movements

He was feeling significantly better.

Targeted Supplements That Supported His Recovery

Along with the FreeDiet®, he took supplements tailored to his needs.

The  Functional Five (Foundational Supplements)

  • Multivitamin
  • Fish oil
  • Vitamin D with K

  • Probiotic

Blasto-Specific Support

I used a combination of supplements I call Blasto Pack, designed to support gut health especially if concerned with:

  • Parasite elimination
  • Gut bacteria balance
  • Candida overgrowth balance

Additional Support

This combination helped restore gut health, balance hormones, and improve nutrient absorption.

The 7 Causes of High Ferritin and How to Fix It: A Patient Success Story

Today you’re going to learn the seven causes of high ferritin and how one patient lowered her ferritin by over 1,000 points in just four weeks—while also improving her triglycerides, uric acid, inflammation, and many chronic symptoms.

Her Symptoms: Years of Chronic Health Issues

A 64-year-old woman came in with a long list of symptoms, including:

  • Nausea
  • Bloating
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea and constipation
  • Fatigue
  • Brain fog
  • Heart palpitations
  • Itchy skin and hives
  • Tinnitus
  • Vertigo
  • Depression and anxiety

She had been to numerous doctors for years with no improvement.

Her Lab Results: Extremely High Ferritin and More

Initial lab testing revealed:

  • Ferritin: 1,094 (normal for women is 15–150ng/ml; optimal ferritin is 50–80 ng/ml)
  • High liver enzymes
  • High iron and iron saturation
  • High CRP (inflammation marker)
  • High triglycerides
  • High uric acid
  • Low DHEA
  • Low vitamin D
  • Low B12

Functional testing also showed:

  • Celiac genetics with gluten sensitivity
  • Candida yeast overgrowth
  • High gut inflammation markers

She finally had answers—but now we needed to determine why her ferritin was so high.

The 7 Causes of High Ferritin (LA5I’s)

I use the acronym LA5I’s to identify the seven main causes of high ferritin:

  1. Liver disease
  2. Alcohol use
  3. Insulin resistance
  4. Inflammation
  5. Infection
  6. Illness
  7. Iron overload

To determine which of these apply, you need more than the basic labs most doctors order.

The Minimum Testing Needed for High Ferritin

Most doctors only run:

  • CBC
  • Comprehensive metabolic panel
  • Lipids
  • TSH

This patient had been doing these for years—yet no one found the problem.

To properly evaluate high ferritin, you also need these labs:

  • Ferritin
  • Serum iron, Iron saturation, TIBC
  • CRP
  • LDH
  • GGT
  • Insulin
  • A1C
  • Uric acid
  • Free T4 and Free T3

Additional helpful markers:

  • ANA
  • Thyroid antibodies: TPO and Thyroglobulin Abs
  • Reverse T3
  • DHEA
  • Cortisol
  • Testosterone
  • Estrogen
  • B12
  • Folate
  • Vitamin D
  • Urinalysis

For iron saturation above 45% (hers was), test for hemochromatosis DNA.

Her Root Causes of High Ferritin

Based on her results, she had multiple causes:

  1. Liver Dysfunction

Elevated liver enzymes.

  1. Alcohol Use

She was drinking three alcoholic beverages per day (over 21 per week).

  1. Insulin Resistance

High blood pressure, high triglycerides, low HDL, high uric acid, excess belly fat.

  1. Inflammation

CRP was elevated.

  1. Iron Overload

Positive hemochromatosis DNA.

Only 2% of people with this gene develop iron overload. Why was she in that 2%?

Because the combination of:

  • Liver dysfunction
  • Alcohol overuse
  • Insulin resistance
  • Inflammation
  • Genetic predisposition

…all contributed to her extremely high ferritin.

Traditional Treatment: Therapeutic Phlebotomy

She did three phlebotomies in the first month before becoming severely anemic and needing to stop.

Each phlebotomy typically lowers ferritin by about 30 points. At that rate, she would have only dropped to around 1,000—not enough.

We needed a deeper, root-cause approach.

Her Results After 4 Weeks

After following the FreeDiet® and targeted supplements, her results were remarkable.

Ferritin Dropped Over 1,000 Points

  • From 1,094 → 92

Iron Markers Normalized

  • Iron
  • Iron saturation

Inflammation & Metabolic Markers Improved

  • CRP
  • Triglycerides
  • Uric acid
  • Liver enzymes

All dropped 50–60% into normal ranges.

Hormone and Nutrient Levels Improved

  • DHEA
  • Vitamin D
  • B12

Symptoms Improved Dramatically

  • Gut symptoms
  • Fatigue
  • Brain fog
  • Tinnitus
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Vertigo
  • Heart palpitations

She also:

  • Lost 8 pounds of excess weight
  • Lowered her blood pressure by 20 points
  • Felt like a new person

How She Did It

It is free of:

  • Gluten
  • Grains
  • Sugar
  • Yeast
  • Dairy
  • Eggs
  • Soy
  • Legumes
  • Nightshades
  • Processed foods

These foods are the most common triggers for inflammation, gut issues, thyroid dysfunction, and other chronic health problems.

I’ll include a link below for the FreeDiet® Phase 1 Food Chart.

Step 2: Targeted Supplements

She took:

The Functional Five

  • Multivitamin
  • Fish oil
  • Vitamin D with K
  • Magnesium
  • Probiotic

Digestive Support

Liver Support

Adrenal Support

Nutrient Repletion

Inflammation Support

Detox Support

  • Metal Cleanse
  • Infrared sauna (2–3 times per week) to help excrete heavy metals, including excess iron

The Bottom Line

By:

  1. Getting the proper testing
  2. Following the FreeDiet®
  3. Taking the right supplements

…she was able to:

  • Lower ferritin by over 1,000 points
  • Normalize iron and inflammation markers
  • Improve gut and adrenal function
  • Reduce symptoms she’d had for years
  • Feel like a new person

If you get the proper testing to determine your root causes and are provided the right solutions, I believe almost anyone can get better.

How a 20-Year-Old Woman Reversed Rheumatoid Arthritis Symptoms Naturally

This 20-year-old woman was frustrated. Despite years of medications for rheumatoid arthritis, she still suffered from joint pain, fatigue, brain fog, digestive symptoms, anxiety, and depression. She wondered if she would ever get better.

I’m happy to say she did get better — and in this post, I’ll show you how.

If you find this information helpful, please like and subscribe so more people can see it.

This patient was no exception.

Her Symptoms: A Lifetime of Pain and Inflammation

Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at just 9 years old, she came in with:

  • Joint pain in shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles
  • Stomach pain, heartburn, indigestion
  • Bloating, gas, nausea
  • Fatigue and brain fog
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Weight gain
  • Frequent vaginal yeast infections and UTIs
  • PMS and menstrual cramps
  • Itchy skin and acne

She had been prescribed the usual RA medications:

  • Methotrexate
  • Prednisone
  • NSAIDs
  • Weekly biologic injections for the past two years

She was concerned about the potential side effects — including increased cancer risk — and even worse, she wasn’t feeling any better.

She was at her wits’ end.

Step 1: Proper Testing to Identify Root Causes

Her initial labs showed:

  • Low blood sugar
  • Low cholesterol
  • Low thyroid hormones

Functional testing revealed deeper issues across five key areas.

Deficiencies

  • Magnesium
  • B12
  • Vitamin D
  • Ferritin (low iron)

Infections

  • Candida yeast overgrowth
  • Bacterial overgrowth in the intestines

Food Reactions

  • Gluten sensitivity
  • Leaky gut

Hormonal Imbalance

  • High estrogen
  • High DHEA (an androgenic hormone)
  • High cortisol

These imbalances explained many of her symptoms, including:

  • Acne
  • Facial hair
  • Excessive perspiration
  • Menstrual cramps
  • Mood swings

Her Results After One Month

After starting her personalized plan, she returned one month later with dramatic improvements:

  • Joint pain cleared up
  • More energy
  • Better digestion
  • Less anxiety and depression
  • Lost 5 pounds
  • Acne and itchy skin improved

Her labs also showed improvements in:

  • Blood sugar
  • Cholesterol
  • Ferritin
  • B12
  • Folate
  • Magnesium
  • Uric acid
  • DHEA

Her Results After Two Months

Two months later, she continued to feel better:

  • More energy
  • Clearer skin
  • Better digestion
  • Less inflammation and pain

She had stopped her RA medication two months earlier — and still felt great.

Her Results After Two Years

Two years later, she returned with incredible news:

  • Her rheumatologist told her she was cleared of rheumatoid arthritis
  • Her labs were normal
  • She had no symptoms
  • She had been off all RA medications for two years

Her doctor was shocked that she was able to heal her rheumatoid arthritis naturally with diet and supplements and without her medication— weekly injections that cost nearly $100,000 per year.

Step 2: The FreeDiet® — An Anti-Inflammatory Healing Diet

The diet I put her on is called the FreeDiet®, which I developed years ago while healing my own autoimmune Hashimoto’s thyroid condition, rheumatoid arthritis, fatigue, brain fog, IBS, and skin issues.

The FreeDiet® is free of:

  • Gluten
  • Grains
  • Sugar
  • Yeast
  • Dairy
  • Eggs
  • Soy
  • Legumes
  • Nightshades
  • Processed foods

These foods are the most common triggers for inflammation, gut issues, thyroid dysfunction, and chronic health problems.

If you’d like a copy of the FreeDiet® Phase 1 Food Chart, I’ll include a link below.

As patients improve, they move into Phases 2 and 3, gradually adding foods back in.

Step 3: Targeted Supplements for Gut, Hormones & Inflammation

Along with the diet, she took supplements tailored to her needs.

The Functional Five (Foundational Supplements)

  • Multivitamin
  • Fish oil
  • Vitamin D with K
  • Magnesium
  • Strong probiotic

Gut Support

Inflammation Support

Nutrient Repletion

Hormone & Adrenal Support

This combination helped her reduce inflammation, heal her gut, balance hormones, and restore her immune function.

Two Paths: Medication or Root-Cause Healing

For someone with her symptoms, the traditional medical route would involve:

  • Rheumatologist for joint pain
  • GI doctor for stomach issues
  • Psychiatrist for anxiety and depression
  • Dermatologist for acne and itchy skin
  • Gynecologist for PMS and yeast infections
  • Endocrinologist for hormone issues

Each doctor prescribes a different medication for each symptom.

But medications don’t fix the underlying problem — they only manage symptoms.

The other option is to choose health:

  • Identify root causes
  • Follow the right diet
  • Use targeted supplements
  • Heal the gut
  • Balance hormones
  • Reduce inflammation

And that’s how she got better.

The Bottom Line

If you’re dealing with rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune issues, or other chronic health conditions, you have options.

When you uncover the root causes and are provided the right solutions, I believe almost anyone can get better.

How Healing Your Gut Can Raise Low Ferritin Levels Naturally

I’m going to show you how improving your gut health is one of the most important steps in raising low ferritin levels so you can feel better.

Low or high ferritin levels are extremely common, and this patient was no exception.

Her Symptoms: Fatigue, Gut Issues, Hair Loss & Thyroid Problems

This patient came in with:

  • Bloating
  • Constipation
  • Indigestion
  • Fatigue
  • Brain fog
  • Insomnia
  • Anxiety
  • Hair loss
  • Overweight
  • Enlarged thyroid with multiple nodules
  • Hyperparathyroidism

Her lab testing revealed low ferritin — a level of 10.

Most labs list ferritin ranges between 10–150 (or up to 400 in men), so technically she was “normal.” But she was not anemic, and her hemoglobin looked fine, which is why no one had ever checked ferritin before.

However, optimal ferritin levels are 50–80, depending on the individual. A level of 10 can cause many of the same symptoms as anemia, including:

  • Fatigue
  • Brain fog
  • Anxiety
  • Hair loss

She also had:

  • High glucose
  • Insulin resistance
  • Adrenal dysfunction
  • High parathyroid hormone
  • High inflammation

Root Causes Revealed Through Functional Testing

To understand why her ferritin was so low, we ran deeper functional testing across five key areas.

  1. Deficiencies

She was low in:

  • Vitamin D
  • Folate
  • B vitamins
  • CoQ10

Low ferritin often occurs alongside other nutrient deficiencies.

  1. Gut Infections

She had:

  • Candida yeast overgrowth
  • Bacterial overgrowth
  1. Food Reactions
  • Celiac genetics
  • Gluten sensitivity
  • Leaky gut
  • Multiple food reactions
  1. Hormonal Imbalance
  • Adrenal dysfunction
  1. Toxins
  • High mercury levels

One of the most common causes of low ferritin I see is gut malabsorption, often driven by:

  • Food reactions (especially gluten)
  • Yeast and bacterial overgrowth
  • H. pylori
  • Parasites

This patient had several of these root causes.

Her Results After 7 Weeks

After putting her on a specific diet and supplement plan, her results were remarkable.

Ferritin Increased Over 500%

Her ferritin rose from 10 to 66 — a 560% increase — in just 7 weeks.

Other Lab Improvements

  • Glucose dropped 20 points to normal
  • Insulin improved
  • White blood cell count improved
  • Hemoglobin improved
  • DHEA improved
  • Parathyroid hormone PTH dropped 121 points to normal

Symptom Improvements

  • Hair loss improved significantly
  • Thyroid swelling decreased
  • More energy
  • Better digestion
  • Losing inches around her waist

She was feeling dramatically better.

Step 1: The FreeDiet® — An Anti-Inflammatory Healing Diet

The first step was an anti-inflammatory diet. I call it the FreeDiet®, which I developed years ago while healing my own Hashimoto’s autoimmune thyroid condition, rheumatoid arthritis, IBS, fatigue, and skin issues.

The FreeDiet® is free of:

  • Gluten
  • Grains
  • Sugar
  • Yeast
  • Dairy
  • Eggs
  • Soy
  • Legumes
  • Nightshades
  • Processed foods

These foods are the most common triggers for inflammation, gut issues, thyroid dysfunction, and chronic health problems.

If you’d like a copy of the FreeDiet® Phase 1 Food Chart, I’ll include a link below.

Step 2: Targeted Supplements to Raise Ferritin & Heal the Gut

Along with the diet, she took supplements tailored to her needs.

The Functional Five (Foundational Supplements)

  • Multivitamin
  • Fish oil
  • Vitamin D with K
  • Magnesium
  • Probiotic

Iron Supplementation

The specific iron I use is iron glycinate — gentle and highly absorbable.

She took:

  • 4 per day (almost 120 mg total)
  • Along with vitamin C to enhance absorption

Gut Support

To address yeast, bacterial overgrowth, and leaky gut:

Hormone & Adrenal Support

Nutrient Repletion

  • B-complex
  • Iodine (only because she was deficient)
  • Other nutrients she was low in

Her Transformation

By healing her gut, correcting deficiencies, and supporting her thyroid and adrenals, she was able to:

  • Raise ferritin from 10 to 66
  • Improve energy and brain function
  • Reduce thyroid swelling
  • Improve hair loss
  • Normalize blood sugar and inflammation
  • Feel dramatically better in just 7 weeks

The Bottom Line

If you have low ferritin or other chronic health issues, the key is to identify the root causes. When you get the proper testing and the right solutions, I believe almost anyone can get better.

How a Patient Resolved Autoimmune Hyperthyroidism (Graves’ Disease) and No Longer Needed Medication

Today you’re going to learn about a patient who was able to resolve his autoimmune hyperthyroidism—also known as Graves’ disease—and ultimately no longer needed medication.

My name is Dr. Tom Rofrano from the Natural Medicine Clinic in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and I’m the author of the FreeDiet®. Over the last 38 years, I’ve seen more than 100,000 patient visits, many involving gut and thyroid issues. This patient was no exception.

Case Study: A 47-Year-Old Man With Graves’ Disease

A 47-year-old man came in with:

  • Fatigue
  • Brain fog
  • Insomnia
  • Decreased stamina
  • Reduced muscle strength
  • Overweight
  • High blood pressure
  • Hyperthyroidism (Graves’ disease), treated with medication for over 5 years

To understand what was driving his condition, we began with comprehensive lab testing.

Comprehensive Thyroid Testing: What You Really Need

Most doctors only run the basics: CBC, metabolic panel, lipids, and TSH. But for a complete thyroid evaluation, I recommend these in addition:

Essential Thyroid & Metabolic Markers

  • Ferritin with full iron panel
  • CRP (inflammation)
  • LDH
  • GGT
  • Insulin
  • A1C
  • Uric acid
  • Free T3
  • Free T4
  • Thyroid antibodies
  • Reverse T3
  • ANA
  • Adrenal hormones

Additional Helpful Markers

  • Testosterone
  • Estradiol
  • IGF-1
  • B12
  • Folate
  • Vitamin D
  • Homocysteine
  • Urinalysis

Beyond standard labs, I also run functional testing to uncover root causes in five key areas:

  • Deficiencies
  • Toxins
  • Infections
  • Hormonal imbalance
  • Food reactions (especially gluten)

Root Causes Identified

His results revealed multiple underlying issues:

  1. Nutrient Deficiencies
  • Low selenium (critical for thyroid health)
  • Below-optimal iodine
  1. Toxins
  • Elevated mercury levels
  1. Infections
  • Candida yeast overgrowth
  • Bacterial imbalance in the gut
  1. Hormonal Imbalances
  • Very low testosterone
  • Adrenal dysfunction
  1. Food Reactions
  • Celiac genetics
  • Gluten sensitivity
  • Leaky gut
  • Additional food sensitivities

These findings are common in autoimmune thyroid conditions.

The First Month: Rapid Improvements

After one month on a personalized diet and supplement plan, he returned with significant improvements:

  • More energy
  • Less brain fog
  • Better sleep
  • Increased strength and stamina
  • Digestive symptoms resolved
  • 16 pounds lost in the first month

But the most remarkable changes were in his thyroid markers.

Gradually Reducing Thyroid Medication

As his labs improved, he was able to slowly taper his medication:

  • From daily use
  • To 5x/week
  • To 3x/week
  • To 2x/week
  • To once a week

After one year, he was able to stop his medication completely, and his thyroid numbers remained normal.

A year and a half later, he returned for follow-up testing:

  • TSH, T4, and T3 were all optimal
  • Thyroid ultrasound showed no signs of Graves’ disease
  • Only one small, stable thyroid nodule remained

Additional Lab Improvements

Along the way, he experienced major improvements in other key markers:

  • Cholesterol dropped over 100 points
  • Ferritin decreased 50% to optimal levels
  • Insulin normalized
  • Liver enzymes decreased over 50%
  • Testosterone increased over 500 points—without taking testosterone
  • CRP (inflammation) dropped 72%
  • Total weight loss: 28 pounds

He felt better than he had in years.

The FreeDiet®: The Foundation of His Healing

The diet I put him on is called the FreeDiet®, which I developed years ago while healing my own autoimmune thyroid condition (Hashimoto’s), rheumatoid arthritis, IBS, fatigue, and skin issues.

The FreeDiet® is free of:

  • Gluten
  • Grains
  • Sugar
  • Yeast
  • Dairy
  • Eggs
  • Soy
  • Legumes
  • Nightshades
  • Processed foods

These foods are the most common triggers for inflammation, gut issues, thyroid dysfunction, and autoimmune conditions.

Targeted Supplements for Thyroid & Immune Support

Along with the diet, I put him on the Functional Five, which includes:

  • Multivitamin
  • Fish oil
  • Vitamin D with K
  • Magnesium
  • Probiotic

Additional Supplements Based on Testing

This combination helped normalize his thyroid, heal his gut, and restore his vitality.

The Bottom Line

By identifying and addressing the root causes—rather than just treating symptoms—he was able to:

  • Resolve Graves’ disease
  • Discontinue medication
  • Normalize thyroid labs
  • Heal his gut
  • Restore energy and strength
  • Reach his optimal weight

If you have an autoimmune or chronic health condition, I believe that if you uncover the root causes and are provided the right solutions, almost anyone can get better.

How a 39-Year-Old Woman Eliminated H. pylori Naturally and Healed Chronic Digestive Issues

Like and subscribe so more people can see this video. My name is Dr. Tom Rofrano from the Natural Medicine Clinic in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and I’m the author of the FreeDiet®. I’ve been blessed to see over 100,000 patient visits over the last 38 years, many involving gut and thyroid issues. This patient was no exception.

A 39-year-old woman came in with digestive symptoms she had experienced since childhood.

Symptoms and Health History

She struggled with:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Constipation
  • Heartburn
  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia
  • Dry skin
  • Anxiety
  • PMS
  • Joint pain

She also had a miscarriage five years earlier and then took two more years to get pregnant again.

She knew she had H. pylori and had undergone prior treatment, but it was unsuccessful. Standard medical treatment—known as triple therapy (two antibiotics plus an acid-blocking drug)—has become less effective over the years. Many doctors now use quadruple therapy, which includes four medications. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

  1. pylori is extremely common, affecting more than 50% of people worldwide and approximately 20% of North Americans.

Because she had been on antibiotics multiple times throughout her life, she wanted to see if she could get rid of H. pylori naturally.

Step 1: Comprehensive Testing to Identify Root Causes

I began with comprehensive lab testing to uncover what else was contributing to her symptoms. I checked five main areas:

  1. Deficiencies

She had low levels of:

  • B12
  • Folate
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin E
  • Cysteine
  • Ferritin (iron)
  • Many other below-optimal nutrients
  1. Toxins

She had high levels of the heavy metal tungsten.

  1. Infections

In addition to H. pylori, she had:

  • Arcobacter (a pathogenic bacteria)
  • Other imbalanced bacteria
  • Candida yeast overgrowth
  1. Hormonal Imbalance
  • Adrenal dysfunction
  • Estrogen dominance
  1. Food Reactions
  • Very high gluten sensitivity
  • Leaky gut
  • Multiple food sensitivities and allergies

Now that we knew the root causes, we could begin a targeted healing plan.

Step 2: The FreeDiet® — An Anti-Inflammatory Healing Diet

The next step was an anti-inflammatory diet. I call it the FreeDiet®, a diet I developed years ago while healing from my own autoimmune Hashimoto’s thyroid condition, rheumatoid arthritis, IBS, fatigue, and skin issues.

The FreeDiet® is free of:

  • Gluten
  • Grains
  • Sugar
  • Yeast
  • Dairy
  • Eggs
  • Soy
  • Legumes
  • Nightshades
  • Processed foods

These are the foods most commonly responsible for inflammation, gut issues, thyroid dysfunction, and other chronic health problems.

As patients improve, we gradually add foods back in during Phases 2 and 3.

Step 3: Targeted Supplements for Gut Health and H. pylori Support

Along with diet, we used the proper supplements.

Foundational Nutrients (The Functional Five)

  • Multivitamin
  • Fish oil
  • Vitamin D with K
  • Magnesium
  • Probiotic

Specific Gut-Healing Support

Nutrient Repletion

Based on her deficiencies:

  • Vitamins A, C, B12, folate
  • Glutathione with NAC

Hormone & Adrenal Support

Formulas to support adrenal function and balance estrogen dominance.

Her Results After One Month

After following the treatment protocol for one month, she returned with significant improvements:

  • Much better digestion
  • More energy
  • Less pain
  • Sleeping through the night

Her Results After Three Months

At the three-month mark, retesting showed:

  • H. pylori was gone
  • The pathogenic bacteria were gone
  • Her gut was healing

And her symptoms had resolved:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Constipation
  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia
  • Joint pain
  • Dry skin
  • Anxiety
  • PMS

She used to have aches and pains throughout her entire body—those were gone as well.

Why This Approach Works

This is why I test for underlying root causes. When you address the body holistically—healing the gut, balancing hormones, correcting deficiencies, and reducing inflammation—you can get the body into an optimized state of health.

If you have chronic digestive or other health issues, I believe that if you get the proper testing to find your root causes and are provided the right solutions, almost anyone can get better.

How Healing Her Gut Helped a Patient Reduce Menopause Symptoms, Fatigue & Belly Fat in One Month

Today you’re going to learn about a patient entering menopause who dramatically improved her fatigue, brain fog, hot flashes, abdominal bloating, and hair loss in just one month—without medication. She also dropped 8 pounds of stubborn belly fat.

This 53-year-old woman was no exception.

Her Symptoms: Fatigue, Brain Fog, Bloating & Hair Loss

This patient came in with:

  • Fatigue
  • Brain fog
  • Abdominal bloating
  • Hot flashes
  • Hair loss (for 13 years, worsening in the past year)
  • Diarrhea and constipation
  • Neck pain
  • Aching and swelling in her hands

She was frustrated and ready for answers.

Her One-Month Transformation

After a full evaluation and starting the FreeDiet® and supplements, she returned one month later with dramatic improvements:

  • Brain fog cleared
  • Fatigue resolved
  • Hair loss improved
  • Hot flashes reduced
  • Abdominal bloating gone
  • Digestive symptoms resolved
  • Lost 8 pounds, most of it around her midsection

She told me that for the first time in her adult life, she had a flat stomach—and she was thrilled.

Her Lab Improvements

Her bloodwork also improved to optimal levels:

  • Insulin
  • Cholesterol
  • LDL
  • Triglycerides
  • TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) — dropped 3.6 points to optimal

All of this happened without medication.

Step 1: Proper Testing to Identify Root Causes

Most doctors run only the basics:

  • CBC
  • Metabolic panel
  • Lipids
  • TSH

But this often misses the real issues.

Comprehensive Testing Should Also Include:

  • Ferritin and iron panel
  • Inflammatory markers- CRP, Uric Acid, LDH
  • Insulin and A1C
  • Full thyroid panel (I check six markers, not just one)
  • Adrenal and other hormones
  • Urinalysis
  • Vitamin D 25OH

Functional Testing for Root Causes

I also evaluate:

  • Deficiencies
  • Toxins
  • Infections
  • Hormonal imbalance
  • Food reactions

Her Root Causes

Deficiencies:

  • Selenium
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin E
  • B-complex
  • Vitamin K1
  • Other nutrients

Toxins:

  • High mercury levels (a common cause of hair loss)

Infections:

  • Candida yeast overgrowth
  • Bacterial imbalance
  • Epstein-Barr virus

Hormonal Imbalance:

  • Adrenal dysfunction
  • Low DHEA
  • Low cortisol

Food Reactions:

  • Gluten sensitivity
  • Celiac genetics
  • Leaky gut
  • Multiple food sensitivities

If we had only run the basic four tests in your annual check up, we would have missed almost everything.

Step 2: The FreeDiet® — An Anti-Inflammatory Healing Diet

The next step was an anti-inflammatory diet.

If you’d like a copy of the FreeDiet® Phase 1 Food Chart, there’s a link below.

Step 3: Targeted Supplements for Hormones, Gut Health & Inflammation

Along with the diet, she took the supplements she specifically needed.

The Functional Five (Foundational Supplements)

  • Multivitamin
  • Fish oil
  • Vitamin D with K
  • Magnesium
  • Probiotic

Gut Support

To address leaky gut, yeast, and bacterial imbalance:

Inflammation & Insulin Support

Thyroid & Hormone Support

Nutrient Repletion

Her Results: A Healthier Body in Just One Month

By following the FreeDiet® and taking the proper supplements, she was able to:

  • Improve fatigue and brain fog
  • Reduce hot flashes
  • Resolve bloating and digestive issues
  • Improve hair loss
  • Lose 8 pounds of belly fat
  • Optimize cholesterol, insulin, triglycerides, LDL, and TSH

Your body has an incredible, God-given ability to heal itself. When you identify the root causes and provide the right solutions, I believe almost anyone can get better.

How a Patient Cleared Eczema and Chronic Fatigue by Healing Her Gut and Reducing Inflammation

How a Patient Cleared Eczema and Chronic Fatigue by Healing Her Gut and Reducing Inflammation

Today you’re going to learn how a patient cleared up her eczema and chronic fatigue by getting to the root cause of her inflammation and healing her gut.

This patient was no exception.

Her Symptoms: 12 Years of Chronic Health Issues

A 38-year-old woman came in with:

  • Constant abdominal pain
  • Bloating and gas
  • Diarrhea
  • Eczema and rosacea
  • Insomnia
  • Neck and back pain
  • Brain fog
  • Chronic fatigue

For 12 years, she struggled with these symptoms. For two of those years, she spent most of the day in bed. She could work on the computer for only about an hour before becoming exhausted. She also had severe PMS and menstrual cramps.

One Month Later: Significant Improvements

After comprehensive testing, I put her on an anti-inflammatory diet and the proper supplements. One month later, she returned with major improvements:

  • Eczema was better
  • More energy
  • No longer needed to stay in bed all day
  • Could work 3 hours on the computer without fatigue
  • Improved mental clarity
  • Less bloating, gas, and abdominal pain
  • Sleeping better
  • Reduced PMS and anxiety

Her lab results also showed dramatic changes:

  • CRP (inflammation marker) dropped from 4.6 to 0.5 — an 89% improvement
  • Low cortisol improved by 19%
  • IGF-1 (related to growth hormone) improved 72%

Step 1: Proper Testing to Identify Root Causes

Most doctors run only basic labs like CBC, metabolic panel, lipids, and TSH. But to truly understand what’s going on, you need deeper testing.

Minimum Recommended Testing

  • CBC, CMP, Lipids, TSH
  • Ferritin and iron panel
  • CRP
  • LDH
  • GGT
  • Insulin
  • A1C
  • Uric acid
  • Free T3 and Free T4
  • ANA
  • TPO and thyroglobulin antibodies
  • Reverse T3
  • DHEA
  • Cortisol
  • Hormones
  • Vit D, RBC Mag, B12, Folic acid
  • Urinalysis

Functional Testing for Root Causes

I look at five main categories:

  1. Deficiencies
  2. Toxins
  3. Infections
  4. Hormonal imbalance
  5. Food reactions

Her Root Causes

Inflammation:

  • High CRP
  • High insulin
  • High ferritin
  • Low thyroid function (TSH)
  • Low cortisol
  • Low IGF-1

Deficiencies:

  • Glutamine
  • Vitamin A
  • B vitamins
  • Vitamin C
  • Omega-3 EPA
  • Vitamin D

Toxins:

  • Very high mercury

Infections:

  • Candida yeast overgrowth

Food Reactions:

  • Gluten sensitivity
  • Leaky gut
  • Sensitivity to grains, dairy, eggs, legumes, seeds

Hormonal Imbalance:

  • Below-optimal thyroid
  • Adrenal dysfunction

Inflammation was the common thread. Eczema is an inflammatory condition, and while steroid creams or medications can temporarily reduce inflammation, they don’t address what’s causing it.

Step 2: The FreeDiet® — An Anti-Inflammatory Healing Diet

The next step was an anti-inflammatory diet. I call it the FreeDiet®, a diet I developed years ago while healing my own autoimmune Hashimoto’s thyroid condition, rheumatoid arthritis, IBS, fatigue, and skin issues.

The FreeDiet® is free of:

  • Gluten
  • Grains
  • Sugar
  • Yeast
  • Dairy
  • Eggs
  • Soy
  • Legumes
  • Nightshades
  • Processed foods

These foods are the most common triggers for inflammation, gut issues, thyroid dysfunction, and chronic health problems.

What She Ate

Breakfast: A smoothie with clean protein, essential fats, fruits, vegetables, and fiber. (I’ll include a link to the recipe below.)

Lunch & Dinner:

  • High-quality meat, chicken, or fish
  • Plenty of vegetables
  • Healthy fats

This is Phase 1 of the FreeDiet®. As patients improve, we gradually add foods back in during Phases 2 and 3.

Step 3: Targeted Supplements for Gut Healing and Inflammation

Along with the FreeDiet®t, I used the proper supplements.

The Functional Five (Foundational Nutrients)

  • Multivitamin
  • Fish oil
  • Vitamin D with K
  • Magnesium
  • Probiotic

Gut Support Supplements

Inflammation Support

Adrenal Support

Nutrient Repletion

Detox Support

Her Transformation

With the FreeDiet® and targeted supplements, she was able to:

  • Clear up her eczema
  • Resolve chronic fatigue
  • Heal her gut
  • Reduce inflammation by 89%
  • Improve sleep, energy, and mental clarity
  • Reduce PMS and anxiety
  • Start enjoying her life again

The body has an incredible ability to heal itself when you identify the root causes and provide the right solutions.
