I’m sure you’ve all heard the latest about Omega 3’s and their importance to your health. well, let’s make this a bit more interesting than the typical “fish oil helps clear up your eczema” article. By the way, that is true, it does do that. There are countless other benefits that come from omega 3’s though. We often hear about how bad fatty foods are for us, but what you don’t hear about enough is how there are healthy fats.
Certain foods contain the right kind of fats; the fats that our bodies actually need for optimal health. When we take in the right foods, we feel better. How? I’m getting there. Healthy fats (especially omega 3) are extremely important for cell membrane health, heart health, brain function and maintaining healthy joints. Not only that… they can help with depression, skin health, and even support blood sugar and insulin metabolism.
Here’s a short list of foods that are high in healthy fats for us! Extra virgin olive oil, ground flax seeds, raw almonds, walnuts, cashews, pecans, avocados, and extra virgin coconut oil.
The best source of EPA and DHA (Omega 3 fats) is wild-caught fatty fish, such as salmon. If you’re not a big fan of fish, then you’re still in luck because most people would benefit from taking a fish oil supplement (generally 1000-2000mg per day of EPA/DHA).
